Nationals' Josh Harrison: Should be back this week

Harrison could be cleared through the league's COVID-19 protocols as soon as Monday but will likely need another day or two afterward to get ready to rejoin the lineup, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.Manager Dave Martinez said Sunday that Harrison, Kyle Schwarber and Josh Bell could all be back in action early this week provided they received clearance by Monday. The Nats could certainly use three members of their expected starting lineup back after losing five straight games and getting shut out three times in the last four, but there's no guarantee the trio is able to shake off the rust quickly. Harrison will take over as Washington's starting second baseman once he makes his season debut.

Nationals' Josh Harrison: Moves to COVID IL

The Nationals placed Harrison on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, Jessica Camerato of reports.Harrison is one of nine Nationals players on the 40-man roster who will begin the campaign on the IL as a result of the team's recent COVID-19 outbreak. Prior reports have suggested that only four of the players in question have been confirmed to have tested positive for the virus, but it's uncertain whether Harrison is one of the infected players or if he was merely a close contact. According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, players that tested positive will be eligible to return after 10 days in quarantine, while those ruled out through contact tracing can return after a week. Harrison had been projected to begin the season as the Nationals' primary second baseman, but Hernan Perez and Luis Garcia should see most of the work at the position while Harrison is sidelined.

Nationals' Josh Harrison: Opening season at second base

Manager Dave Martinez said Sunday that Harrison will begin the season as Washington's primary second baseman, Mark Zuckerman of reports.Carter Kieboom and Luis Garcia were optioned to Triple-A on Saturday, leaving Harrison and Starlin Castro (hamstring) to secure the starting jobs at second and third base, respectively. Harrison appeared in 33 games during his first season in Washington last year and posted a .278/.352/.418 slash line with three home runs in 91 plate appearances
