Giants' Hanson taking drills in outfield
Bochy said that Hanson will begin taking fielding practice in the outfield to build depth at the position. Hanson played two innings in the outfield for the Giants earlier this season and started 23 games as an outfielder last year for the White Sox -- five in left, six in center and 12 in right. Hanson has been one of the more valuable part-time players in the Majors this season, hitting .350 with an 1.118 OPS with five homers, 17 RBIs and three steals in 60 at-bats. A switch-hitter, most of his plate appearances and success have come against right-handed pitching. He's played mostly second base, but also has gotten time at third, short and the one appearance in left. The Giants want to increase his defensive versatility in order to take advantage of his hot bat.
